Early Life and Career
Tim Walz was born in West Point, Nebraska, on April 6, 1964. He graduated from Creighton Preparatory School in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1982 and received a B.A. in political science from the University of Northern Iowa in 1986. After college, Walz served in the U.S. Army for 24 years, retiring as a command sergeant major in 2005.
Walz entered politics in 2006 when he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives from Minnesota's 1st Congressional District. He served in the House until 2019, rising to the rank of ranking member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
Governorship
Walz was elected Governor of Minnesota in 2018. He is the state's 41st governor and the second Democrat to hold the office since 1983. Walz was re-elected in 2022.
