About the 2022 UNOC
The ocean covers 70% of the Earth's surface and is home to 80% of all life on the planet. It is our largest ally against climate change, absorbing vast amounts of carbon dioxide and releasing oxygen into the atmosphere. However, the ocean is in serious trouble. Overfishing, pollution, and climate change are threatening its health and biodiversity.
The 2022 UNOC will bring together world leaders and experts to discuss and develop solutions to protect the ocean. The conference will focus on four main themes:
- Scaling up ocean science and innovation
- Strengthening ocean governance and partnerships
- Investing in ocean action
- Empowering people for ocean stewardship
The goal of the conference is to jumpstart solutions to protect the planet and open a new chapter of global ocean action.
