Boston Red Sox Beat Houston Astros 6-2 in Wild Card Game

Red Sox Advance to ALDS

The Boston Red Sox defeated the Houston Astros 6-2 in the American League Wild Card Game on Tuesday night at Fenway Park. The Red Sox will now advance to the ALDS, where they will face the Tampa Bay Rays.

Astros Strike First

The Astros took an early lead in the game when Yordan Alvarez hit a solo home run off Red Sox starter Nathan Eovaldi in the first inning. The Red Sox answered back in the bottom of the inning, however, when Trevor Story hit a two-run homer of his own.

Red Sox Take Control

The Red Sox took the lead for good in the third inning when Rafael Devers hit a two-run double. Xander Bogaerts added an RBI single in the fourth inning to give the Red Sox a 6-1 lead.

Eovaldi Dominant

Eovaldi settled down after the first inning and was dominant for the rest of his outing. He allowed just four hits and one run over six innings of work. He struck out nine batters and walked none.

Astros' Comeback Falls Short

The Astros made a late push in the ninth inning when Chas McCormick hit a solo home run. However, the Red Sox bullpen was able to hold on for the win. John Schreiber pitched a 1-2-3 inning in the eighth, and Matt Barnes worked around a walk to earn the save in the ninth.
